City of Angels Slider
CITY OF ANGELS is two shows in one. It is the interweaving of two plots, one dealing with the writing of a screenplay in the legendary Hollywood of the 1940′s; the other, the enactment of that screenplay. This double feature quality means that CITY OF ANGELS is perhaps the only “colour coded” show any theatre audience is likely to see. The movie scenes appear in black and white using cinematic, lighting and makeup effects, and the real life scenes are in technicolour. The musical scores by Cy Coleman has demonstrates his usual flair for showstoppers while emulating pure 1940′s vintage Film Noir. Larry Gelbart is best known for developing MASH for television and his script contains the usual satirical style and dry wit one would expect.
Bringing the SE Queensland premier of this exciting and vibrant show to the BTG stage is the team of director, Steven Days, choreographer, Jacqui Cullen and musical director, Geoff Secomb. Along with a 14-piece live orchestra this show will keep audiences toe tapping and on the edge of their seats
Winner of three Tony Awards (Best Musical, Book of a Musical and Original Score) Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Play and five Drama Desk Awards (Outstanding Musical, Book of a Musical, Orchestration, Lyrics and Music) this show is a set to be a classic about classic Hollywood style.
